Sausage, Rice, and Cheese

• olive oil
• 4 chicken sausages
• 1 onion
• rice
• water
• salt
• gruyere cheese
• Recipe
• 2 tbsps olive oil (30g)
• 4 chicken sausages
• 1 onion, chopped
• 1 cup rice, wild rice blend
• 1¹/₂ cups water (198g)
• ¹/₂ tsp salt
• ¹/₂ cup gruyere cheese, or cheddar, grated
• Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Chop the onion and slice the sausages into thin "coins." Saute the sausages with the onion until the onion is soft (about 10 minutes or less). Add the rice and stir to coat evenly. Add the water and salt and bring to a boil. Cover, turn the heat to low, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, until the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the top and serve with a salad and bread.
