Hermit Cookies

• unsalted butter
• milk
• lemon juice
• baking soda
• cinnamon
• cloves
• nutmeg
• salt
• molasses
• chopped nuts
• raisins
• 1 egg

• If sour milk is not available, mix together milk and lemon juice and set aside for at least 5 minutes. Meanwhile, cream together sugar and butter in standing mixer. Add baking soda, spices, and salt, beating until combined. Add milk and molasses, then flour. Fold in nuts and raisins. Add beaten egg last. Spread dough on a greased baking sheet to 1/2" thick. Bake 10-14 minutes, until edges are browned and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool, then slice into squares or bars.
